Welcome Letter

Incirlik Unit School

25 August, 2008

Dear Parents,

Welcome!

I would like to welcome you and your child to Grade Two and Room 127. This letter contains information that will help us get started on a productive year at Incirlik Unit School.

In Second Grade students will work to increase reading fluency and learn to look for the plot and sequence of events of a story. Self correction while reading will be an important skill to master. The students will work to write thoughtful sentences using standard punctuation and to spell high frequency words correctly. A greater variety of vocabulary words that use digraphs and diphthongs will be encountered.

In Math, students in second grade will work on solving a variety of mathematical problems using addition and subtraction, and begin to work with two digit numbers. The children will learn to organize information, and will practice telling time and taking measurements. They will learn to build new mathematical knowledge through problem solving.

Look on the Class Web Page for a complete list of Second Grade Curriculum Standards.

This will be a year of new challenges and fun learning activities!

Please feel free to stop by the room at any time, but check in at the school office when you first. Of course, I must give my primary attention to the students during the school day, so you will need to make an appointment if you need to see me for a substantial meeting. Contact information is listed below. Thank you for your support!
