Hello                     Hallo

Horst Erich Lenk, Klara Olga (Bochmann) Lenk, and my father Horst Manfred Lenk emigrated from Zschorlau, Germany, in 1929.  Their families had lived in the Erzgebirge and around Zschorlau since the 1500's and probably before.  Looking for a new life (and probably for some adventure too), they boarded the ship SS Yorck in Breman and set off for the United States, stopping shortly in New York City, and finally disembarking in Galveston, Texas.  They were with a group of Zschorlau friends who all continued on to the Los Angeles area in California.  The soon settled in Hawthorne, which then was a small rural town near Los Angeles.  Hawthorne is now very near the Los Angeles International Airport and surrounded by millions of people.  These friends stayed together their whole lives and their descendants continue to meet for an annual summertime picnic - now for over 75 years.
