• Name: Zwetchgenstiel: Vischnitz Austria/Hungary. According to Alan Brothers, Polish Jews did not have surnames until a law was passed in 1760 that required them. It appears that Wolf as the first, and probably the only, person of that time to use the name Zwetchgenstiel.

• Residence: Vischnitz Austria/Hungary. According to Alan Brothers, Jews were exiled and legally prevented from living in Bochnia, approximately 4 miles from Vischnitz, from 1650 until 1860. Once leaving Vischnitz in the late 1860s, Zwetchgenstiel family members went to other nearby towns including Bochnia, Krakow and Tarnow as well as to other countries.

• Death, Bef 1844, Vischnitz Austria/Hungary. He must have died before 1844 because Mendel named his first son Wolf for him and Wolf was born in 1844.
