Thank you for visiting the fund-raising web page for Rainbow's End and Raven Song.

Rainbow's End is 47 acres. Raven Song, 41 acres are our neighbors.
Together we need to buy a buffer on our west boundaries
before the timber company kills the hardwoods this spring.

Below are pictures of Rainbow's End
through the years and seasons.

Much of Rainbow's End is historic oak woodland - oak savannah habitat, and many acres of what we want to buy is also oak habitat. Oak woodlands once blanketed Douglas County valleys, but today, it is our most endangered ecosystem. Oaks have been cleared for farming and housing developments. Fire suppression has caused conifer encroachment into what oak habitat is left, killing these sun-dependent trees.

Oak trees are a corner-stone species, supporting large numbers of wildlife species (western gray squirrel, bears, birds, etc), which in turn, support other wildlife species. Because oak habitat restoration is so important, Rainbow's End worked with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on a plan to maintain and restore our native forest ecosystems. This plan is registered with the county assessors office, and our tax status is based on this plan, as opposed to taxes based on farming or forestry.

In memory of Mini -- she only ate mice and left the birds alone.
Before 1990 - - June 6, 2007.

Left: Red Shouldered Hawk. Right: Acorn Woodpecker, both uncommon species in this area. The acorn woodpecker is uncommon because of loss of oak habitat. We are privileged to provide these magnificent creatures a home.

The cliffs above Rainbow's End and RavenSong are in our daily lives. Each year we watch the peregrine falcon nesting, one of only 8 successful nests in Douglas County. Last year they raised three baby falcons.

yes, I know, lots of deer pictures -- but they pose so pretty.

We protect wildlife and wildwomen for future generations.
