August 1: PCT - Wrangle Gap to Dutchman Peak - New Hike TH: Take Rapp Road, Wagner Creek Road and FS 22 up from Talent to the junction with FS 20. Head west on FS 20 3.8 miles to Wrangle Gap. EDT 90 minutes. Description: Follow the PCT west to the Sheep Camp Spring area and then head up to Dutchman Peak for 360 degree views. Distance: 8 miles. Elevation gain: 1,200 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage 60 miles.
August 8 - 9: Overnight to the Steamboat Inn. New Experience - Meet at 8:00 AM. Head up I-5 on Wednesday morning to Roseburg and then east to the TH for Hemlock Lake (P. 23 in 100 Hikes). Do the 7.2 mile loop with lunch atop the Flat Rock lookout. Overnight at Steamboat. Then on Thursday start at the Inn and do either a 9 mile out and back on the south bank or the 11 mile North Umpqua River loop hike (p.18 in 100 hikes). Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 240 miles.
August 15: Mount Bailey (p. 56 in 100 Hikes) - Meet 8:00 AM- TH:Take Hwy 62 to Union Creek, then branch left on Hwy 230. Approximately 2.2 miles past the Crater Rim Viewpoint rest area make a left onto Road 3703 and then 5.5 miles to the TH. EDT: 2 hr Description: We are going to avoid the rough road to the upper TH this year by taking the west side open woods ascent of about 6 miles and 2,800'. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 190 mi.
August 22 Kayak the Middle Klamath - New Experience - Meet at 8:00 AM TH Klamath River Resort just east of Happy Camp. EDT: 2 hours Description: Kayak from the resort 10 miles downriver through 3 class III rapids to Wingate Bar. Kayak rental and shuttle will be about $60 per person. EDT: 2 hours. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 180 miles.
August 29: Squaw Meadow and Gray Butte (Mt Shasta) (p. 218 in 100 Hikes) TH: Take the first Mt. Shasta Exit (mile 740). East on Mt. Shasta Blvd. to the first left and then left on Ski Village Drive over to Everitt Memorial Highway to Panther Meadows parking lot. EDT: 90 min Description: We will be doing the loop in a counterclockwise direction, having lunch atop Gray Butte. The Squaw Meadow loop starts at 7,440 ft and reaches a high point of 8,300 ft; Distance: 6 miles; climbing: 1,800'. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 180 mi
