"Dick" is a reasonably clever spoof
on the Watergate scandal, wherein a couple of highly incoherent
giggly girls (played by Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams) facilitate
the greatest political scandal in United States history. At first
their involvement is a fluke, but once they finally (sort of)
realize that the president is an evil man, they devote their featherweight
intellects to Nixon's downfall. In addition to the Watergate scandal,
the pair is smartly written into a number of historic milestones
that occur on Nixon's watch.
Being one who has long suffered from brainlessteenybopperophobia, I found the lead characters wore on my nerves a bit, but the film was sharp enough that even I ultimately enjoyed myself.
Dan Hedaya was born to play Richard Nixon. It's a pity Oliver Stone didn't use him in "Nixon", but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. SNL and Kids in the Hall fanatics will also enjoy the cast, with funny appearances by Jim Breuer, Will Ferrell, Dave Foley, Ana Gasteyer and Bruce McCulloch. Yeah!!!
